But, as a whole, it’s just a shame that on Means, FEWS’ originality seems far between. Still, a lack of inspiration doesn’t necessarily stop this from being a fun album - they’re a great band live (they recently provided support on Spring King’s sold out UK tour) with tracks like “If Things Go On Like This” and epic eight-minute closer “Ill” which posses a summer-ready swagger that will go down well with a few beers during festival season. It’s not a bad thing to be influenced by a modern band who have carved a unique sound of their own, but, whereas DIIV’s mystery and self-destruction contributes to the drugged-up reverb of their appeal, FEWS sound uninspired, and must at least have a sober awareness of the similarity in their sound - instrumental opener “I.D.” as well as “The Queen” and “Drinking Games” in particularly sound like cuts that were not quite good enough to make DIIV’s 2013 debut Oshin. Despite having the “post-post-punk” tag attached to them and being heavily influenced by Daniel Kessler’s work with Interpol and Big Noble, the band’s resemblance to Brooklyn wasters DIIV is overbearingly uncanny.

It’s a promising debut - an easy listen consistently clean in sound and neatly polished by Carey - but it’s by no means the full package. In the near future you can catch The Few performing for the Canadian Red Cross Malaria Fundraiser organized by Former Much Music VJ Namugenyi Kiwanuka.Means, released on Play It Again Sam, is the resulting record. The Few were selected as one of the headliners for the Youth Day 2007, held on July 21st at NATHAN PHILLIPS SQUARE and their work has also been featured in videos for the National Post and Independent films.

There are elements of early The Cure, a bit of Scandinavian flair akin to Leaves, a dab of DIIV, a splash of early Foals ’ math-rock and a whole lot of. In 2006, one of the band's songs, submitted to the International Songwriting Competition, advanced to the semi-finals. FEWS, then, could perhaps be best imagined as a spiky, icy guitar band that play a quickfire strain of repetitive, spacey psych rock which is no surprise given Carey’s involvement. Their fresh perspective of Hip Hop has been a welcome change in this genre and it has earned them a large fan base. Though these three musicians remain as the core of the band, they work with other artists such as keyboardists, guitarists, woodwind players, etc., regularly when playing shows and recording songs. The Few has written plenty of original songs and they play shows regularly which demonstrate how much they enjoy playing music. This serious-minded and hard working band takes great pride in their art and their easy going and fun personalities create a great atmosphere. His groovy and smooth basslines were exactly what the band was looking for to add to their unique style of music. In 2007, the band introduced their bassist, Shane 'Darkness'. The Few was formed by vocalist, MAL, and drummer, RiDim, in early 2005. This band has also gained valuable experience regarding the business aspect of music by promoting their material and shows effectively. The Few's prominence and passion for music is evident on the stage with energetic and dynamic performances.

A wide range of influences encourage The Few to create music that is pushing the boundaries with additives from genres such as Jazz, Blues, etc. The Few refuse to allow themselves be specified by one genre. The Few is a Toronto based band, appealing to Hip Hop, Funk, Dub and other genres with a strong emphasis on stage performance with a truly unique sound.

Instrumentation in Hip Hop has mostly been a rare find and that is exactly where The Few rise to the occasion and also it is the diversity in their style of music where they attract attention.
